Tech’s Department of biomedical engineering, which was ranked for the first time just last year, has climbed quickly to become one of the highest-ranked biomedical engineering programs at a university that is not affiliated with a medical school. Eric Ledet, associate professor and laboratory director of the Musculoskeletal Mechanics Laboratory in the Department of biomedical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his research team have been named the 2015 recipients of the prestigious multidisciplinary program that focuses on advancements in the fields of biomedical engineering, biology, physics, and chemistry in an effort to promote understanding of human health and disease. By interacting with leaders in these research fields Electrical engineering rose to 92nd, up from 114th. Mechanical engineering was ranked 53rd, which is an increase of 8 positions. Biomedical engineering went up to 63rd from 71st. Civil engineering rose five positions to 63rd. Computer engineering also went A University of Toronto researcher known for applying engineering principles to medical problems has garnered a top international award for women in science. Molly Shoichet, a professor of chemistry and biomaterials and biomedical engineering, was named a Johns Hopkins University graduate programs in education, medicine, public health, and nursing—and in individual disciplines including biomedical engineering—remain among the best in the nation, according to the newest U.S. News & World Report "Best .
Editor's Note: Welcome to this week's edition of STEM Student of the Week. Once a week, ECN features a student working on a degree (of any level) in engineering as part of our STEM initiative. If you know a student who would like to be featured, email me In addition to the petroleum industry, engineers in other fields are also on the rise. Biomedical engineering: These engineers are finding futuristic ways to grow new body parts, create targeted drug therapies and develop individualized drug treatment The Tokyo-based Nakatani Foundation for Advancement of Measuring Technologies in Biomedical Engineering today announced 3 recipients of The Nakatani Award, 27 recipients of its Technology Development Research Grants and 1 recipient of its Investigative The Biomedical Sciences Program is based on a curriculum developed by Project Lead The Way, a nonprofit organization promoting STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics – education in elementary, middle and high schools around the country. .
